For what it's worth, I proudly say that I went to the same high school as out actress Cynthia Nixon, out poet Audre Lourde, and Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, VERY liberal and gay-friendly place. And the kids were/are freakin' smart, with one of the highest SAT averages in the nation. In fact, the conservative Wall Street Journal called it the best high school in America One of my friends taught himself calculus in 10th grade, and aced the APs that year. Another went to Columbia University for math classes as a 7th grader. The negative side to having all these geniuses is that we SUCKED at sports. In fact, being a small school in Manhattan, we didn't even have a football team. On the plus side, the students also voted against having cheerleaders because we found the idea sexist. Another plus was that there are always some cute geniuses who have both body and brain. One of my hot friends was on the baseball team, track team and math team. And he is blond! :)
